The Journey of Romantic Relationships :
Relationship- a word that has seen a drastic change in the past decades. According to any dictionary, relationship is the state of being connected. When two or more people are together, it’s a relationship. Leaving apart all the relationships a person has, the concept of romantic relationship is the one that has seen most of the changes in the past years. In India, there are even movies made on different eras of Romantic Relationships and Lifestyle News how they used to be then and now. It’s very intriguing to see a single bond take so many forms.
Back in the old days, a romantic relationship was when the two of them were married. Marriage was the term that defined the word relationship. Back then, being together before marriage was not considered to be a relationship. Even if both the persons were together, it wasn’t termed as a relationship. Even the society and parents didn’t look at in a good way. But gradually, lovers started terming their time together as a relationship. And parents started accepting it. Today also, not everybody is open about having a relationship before marriage but gradually it’s being accepted. But in the current scenario, the concept of what love and being in a relationship is has seen a drastic change. Sweet romance and gestures are not termed as old school love. But what’s noteworthy is that relationships back then were stronger and the lasted. They were mature as well as sweet. But today, there are different types of relationship. People have relationships based on physical pleasure. Some get into relationships purely physical pleasure. Things like open relationship have ruined the concept of love. Even the kids these days aren’t untouched by the concept of relationship. By the time they are mature, most of them had gone through heartbreak when they should have been reading Enid Blyton. It’s weird too see them speaking about love when truly, love is a concept that’s almost lost when it comes to modern day relationships. A popular term in the modern day relationships is “Long Distance Relationships” or LDR as the youngsters call it. Although this concept is popular these days, but it has been there since old times. People in relationships, when apart, used to write letters and telegrams to each other and it was very sweet thing to do. Now-a-days, the technology has made the distances shorter. People, even though separated by distances, are now close to each other. Present times have also seen same sex relationships emerge. The golden days had simplified relationships. But now they have become complicated as people have become more self- centred. Moreover, a sense of superiority has seeped into relationships that make them ugly.
Aristotle once said “Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies”.But this does not hold true for the current generation. Couplesview this as a burden. They see it as chain that bounds them. Back then, people knew at what point of time they should give their partner the space they need, something that is totally neglected these days.People also have too much expectation in a relationship these days which kills the love in it. The joy of giving is lost in today’s world.
It’s a pity that as the number and forms of relationships is increasing, love is getting neglected for the sake of physical satisfaction or even petty things like ego. It’s a sad thing that people throw away a beautiful relationship because of ego. In the old days, relationships had sacrifice, love, struggle and partners had a passion to make it work. But today, people are becoming more and more intolerant and ambitious. And too much of both these things ruin relationships. People back then used to put their partners happiness before theirs and this is something very rare now. Most importantly, almost all relationships were comprised purely of love and care in the old times but not today. Lust, desire, ego and greediness have engulfed relationships.
A true loving dedicated relationship that lasts long is hard to find but is truly a gift and a boon for those who have it.Our ancestors are very lucky to be born in the time where relationships were unconditional and full of love, care and passion.
